If you had your own online business bringing in six figures annually, would you consider taking on an additional position working for someone else as their affiliate manager?My initial response is, No way!?. At first, it doesn't make sense to me why I would work on growing another marketer's business when I could spend that same time continuing to grow my own business.
But then I stop and think ? maybe someone who does choose to do this knows things I haven't taken into consideration.
My questions led me to reach out to a fellow marketer I know who has done just that ? added Affiliate Manager? to his responsibilities while he continues to run his own six-figure-a-year online business.
In my years in internet marketing, I have had the pleasure of meeting, and getting to know, some amazing fellow marketers. My best education has been the information and tips we have each shared as our relationships grew.
One fellow marketer I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the years is Josh Spaulding. Josh is a great guy ? very down-to-Earth as well as very successful at running his own online business.
Recently, Josh took on the additional opportunity of becoming the affiliate manager for all Jonathan Leger products. Jonathan is another marketer I have great respect for, and his products and tools are some of the most popular in the affiliate marketing space.
Becoming an Affiliate Manager for such a strong and popular product line as well as continuing to run your own successful online business is no easy feat. That got me to wondering why Josh would choose to add Affiliate Manager duties to his daily routine as opposed to working solely on his own online promotions and products.
1. Josh, you are a very strong affiliate and product creator in your own right. What made you decide to become an affiliate manager?
Josh: Mainly the networking benefits, but also because most seven-figure marketers are more than willing to share the increase in profits. And when you're working with someone who does six figures every month, that can add up to quite a bit of money.
For years, the thought never even crossed my mind. But after I started working with Jonathan Leger, who I have always admired as a marketer and as a person, it didn't take long to realize that by being his affiliate manager, we could both benefit.
He just doesn't have time stay in touch with multiple affiliates, create affiliate material etc. etc. and I'm still working to grow my business.
So by establishing relationships with some of the top affiliates in the industry and convincing them to promote Jon's excellent products, I stand to have a larger affiliate base for my own products in the future, as a big part of being an affiliate manager is simply networking and getting to know people. The people just so happen to be highly successful affiliate marketers.
On top of that, it's a great way to learn about new promotion techniques. You see how successful affiliates make sales and sometimes you'll be shocked at how many sales can be generated by doing things you never would have thought of.
Josh: Above all I would say networking skills. Although skills? may be the wrong word. I would say the best affiliate manager on earth would be a person who gets along with everyone they meet and truly tries to help them whenever possible.
When a super affiliate? knows that you are there to help them make as much money as possible promoting this? product, they are much more likely to promote this? product rather than that? product that doesn't have someone available to them to help with anything they need.
But it really all comes down to relationships. You don't have to know all kinds of super affiliates right away. But you should be able to establish relationships with them over time and keep that relationship going, even when there isn't something to promote!
3. If you wanted to find a solid affiliate manager for your program, how would you go about it?
Josh: That's a good question. I would make a list of every internet marketer I know who:
I feel has a decent to good knowledge of the industry in general ? can easily manage promotional material, can come up with creative ideas etc.
Is easy to get along with ? likeable? and seems to get along with everyone.
Has products of their own. This probably wouldn't be a requirement, but it sure would be nice.
Then I would reach out to them and make a simple proposal via email or phone.
4. If someone asked you how to become an affiliate manager, what advice would you give them?
Josh: Get to know people in the industry. Network as much as possible. Get to know as affiliate marketing assistant job description many super affiliates? as possible and as many successful product owners as possible.
Once you get to the point where you feel like you have value to offer, just ask. That may sound like generic advice, but I've been creating and selling my own products for nearly eight years and I don't think I've ever received an email from anyone asking to be my affiliate manager.

Josh: Each affiliate is a little different. Some use really creative ways to make sales ? ways I would never have thought of. Others just have huge email lists. Some have membership sites full of subscribers who will buy anything that they recommend.
The affiliates I know are very diverse ? there are very few similarities, actually. But for the most part, I would say, they do everything they can to gain people's trust.
I think many people who have not succeeded with affiliate marketing are always thinking about money and not thinking enough about earning trust. As Zig Ziglar once said ?You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.? Most of the successful affiliates I know (like you) understand and embrace that fact.

In this agreement, the term "Affiliate" refers to you (the applicant). In this agreement, Pure Chat? refers to Pure Chat, Inc., a Delaware Corporation, with whom you are entering this agreement. By applying to the Pure Chat affiliate program you are confirming that you have read the agreement and agree to the terms and conditions.
There are two types of Affiliate programs with Pure Chat: one-time and recurring.
For a sale to generate a commission to an Affiliate, the customer must complete the order form and remit full payment for the product. Commissions will only be paid on sales that are made when the customer clicks through qualified, correctly structured Affiliate links. Properly coded links are the sole responsibility of the affiliate. Commissions can be viewed on the Affiliate Dashboard.
If the Affiliate is on a one-time payment option, they will receive a commission for each new signup.
If the Affiliate is on a recurring payment schedule, they will continue to accumulate commissions for each paid transaction by the customer for as long as the customer remains a paying customer. For Affiliates participating in the recurring program, commissions will also accumulate for plan upgrades and adding users.
An Affiliate can request a payment when their balance reaches a minimum balance of $25 USD. Payments can be requested every 30 days. Payment processing can take up to 30 days from the request date. Payments will generally be paid out via PayPal.
In the event a customer requests a refund for a transaction for which the Affiliate has earned commissions, any commissions earned on the refund amount will be deducted from the Affiliate's balance.
Affiliates are permitted to use the Pure Chat brand and marketing resources available in the Affiliates section of the Pure Chat application. Logos and other assets cannot be modified. The Affiliate does not gain any trademark, copyright or any other rights to these materials.
The Affiliate will never imply that they are acting on behalf of Pure Chat and will never advertise Pure Chat products directly. The Affiliate will never bid for advertisements that compete with Pure Chat.
The Affiliate will never represent themselves, Pure Chat or their relationship with Pure Chat in a false or misleading way.

Either party has the right to terminate the agreement immediately without prior notice.

ABC Affiliates Hear From Dungey, Mull New OTT Plan
Las Vegas?ABC's Board of Governors met Monday afternoon with Ben Sherwood, president of the Disney-ABC Television affiliate marketing acronyms Group and Channing Dungey, the newly-named president, ABC Entertainment Group, and other top network brass.CBS and Fox affiliates boards also heard from their networks in closed-door meetings in nearby Encore Hotel conference rooms.
Dungey is on the hot seat after several of ABC's 10 p.m. shows, scheduled by her predecessor Paul Lee,?faltered this year. Those poor performances created bad lead-ins for affiliate late night newscasts around the country.
Arriving at the meeting, Dungey said she expected affiliates would ask probing questions about her scheduling plans for the upcoming season. While that could have been a testy exchange, she emerged from the closed-door meeting all smiles. We're trying to get this party started,? Dungey exclaimed.

The trick is that OTT negotiations can become a three-legged stool, Rouse explained, involving nettlesome agreements with multichannel video program distributors (MVPDs), the network and the local stations. Getting all three on the same page isn't as easy as it might sound.
Clearinghouse essentially is offering to let affiliates latch on to deals ABC has made, specifically with DirecTV and Sony, that smooth out rough technical and financial issues. I have been interested in the online marketing industry since I started my studies in media management back in 2008. I have always been a fan of Google and in particular a follower of Matt Cutts' videos on the Google Webmaster YouTube channel. Between my bachelors and masters, I worked for an online marketing agency in Singapore and then during my masters in UK, I managed to apply successfully to the Google Search Quality team based in the EMEA headquarter in Dublin, Ireland. I consider Google Search as an awesome, ever-changing product, paired with my sense of justice and order, an analytical job like spamfighter with its requirement of problem solving skills has been since then very appealing to me.
2. How do you personally perceive the German SEO industry and how high is its degree of professionalism compared to the industry in Google's home country USA?
If you ask me to characterize the German SEO industry, three attributes come to my mind: analysis-driven, sense of community, fast-moving.
1. While most marketing professionals are naturally exposed to analytical work such as market research, competitor analysis, or performance tracking, it seems that there is particular attention paid to this in Germany. The degree of professionalism or quality of work will be measured by how well customized the solutions are to the specific business needs. Germany's SME sector contributes heavily to its GDP. There is a strongly contributing segment of traditional brick-and-mortar companies, which serve partially quite niche markets and there is potential for them in having a professional and well-frequented online presence as well. SEO will be an important part of that, depending on audience characteristics, but by far it will not be the only part. Germany can move forward in the broader theme of digitization and online economy with the help of holistic digital service agencies that are not only competent in SEO.

Generally, I would like to say that all types of fraud and abuse bother me. However, in the wider world of fraud and abuse, I am particularly bothered by phishing emails. The level of brazenness is absolutely appalling how spammers and criminals are trying to lure people through emails with forged company logos and sophisticated trust building texts to click-through affiliate cookies characterizing affiliate marketing abuse to fake websites, which then request the input of sensitive data, for instance covered as a genuine looking security form from a bank, asking for a confirmation of a person's bank details and login access. I have to praise my colleagues in email spam for doing a great job as Gmail is actually really good at filtering or detecting those phishing emails.
Specifically in the webspam space, what I dislike are websites that are purely generated for search engines and not at all for users. Apart from the fact that those pages are not compliant with our webmaster guidelines, I think that organizations or webmasters are already discrediting themselves with such methods in front of their visitors and potential clients.

Many SEO beginners are usually overwhelmed, when diving into the available resources; do you have a tip or any particular resources or required reading every webmaster should know? There are indeed many online resources around SEO, probably due to the general online affinity of this group. In fact, it is a large part of the job of Google's global Search Outreach team to create resources that support webmasters. 5. How important do you consider a decent onpage optimization for websites? What should be the focus of webmasters to rank better in search results with their website?
Onpage optimization is a frequently underestimated field that requires technical diligence and consistency across pages and sits directly on the design concept of a website. A decent onpage optimization contributes to high usability and user satisfaction as well as traffic quality and is therefore central to every business' online presence.
Generally, we do not give ranking advice to webmasters. We encourage webmasters to follow the motto that Google follows as well: Focus on the user and all else will follow. Creating a website that works well for users and search engines can be very challenging. This type of work is not going away and will remain critical in the future. In particular for larger sites, understanding crawling and indexing is crucial for making content quickly findable in search and beyond including Google News, Google Now, knowledge graph and structured data. Overall, there is no magical meta-tag that makes a site crawlable, indexable and thereby also rank in search. It is always a combination of various factors that you should keep in mind. The most awesome site can't improve its rankings, if search can't even read its content.
